World and Story Notes
Recent World Events:
- At the end of the World War the United States was rocked by the ‘Workers Succession’ a rebellion in the Industrial Belt that saw cities and factories taken over by what appeared to be a popular workers movement. Troops returning from Europe were sent in only to find a highly organized resistance. The US was forced to ask for foreign aid and with Canadian and British support recaptured much of what had been lost. Found in the fighting were papers showing that rather than being a populist uprising, the entire event had been backed by a mysterious Association of Socialist Scientists, a shadowy group of which little is known.
- The suppression of the uprising left the US divided politically and the Federal government’s authority severely weakened. While there is only one city left completely under control of the rebels, there are areas across the country that now only nominally part of the United States.
- In some places the Industrial version of the old cattleman’s wars have broken out in the US and elsewhere to control certain key industries and resources. The combination of Prohibition and these private wars has made it a golden age of thugs and criminals in the US. In spite of this rapid advances are being seen in the sciences worldwide.
